What is class 801?

Class 801 is a type of electric multiple unit (EMU) train used in the United Kingdom. It is a part of the Hitachi A-train family, designed and manufactured by Hitachi Rail Europe for the East Coast Main Line franchise. The trains consist of five or nine coaches and are capable of operating at a maximum speed of 140 mph (225 km/h).

Class 801 trains use electric traction system and have regenerative braking, which means that they can recover some of the energy generated during braking and reuse it for acceleration. The trains are also equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including digital signalling and passenger information systems.

The Class 801 trains offer comfortable and spacious seating for passengers, with features such as USB charging points and Wi-Fi connectivity. They also have larger luggage racks and improved accessibility for disabled passengers.

The first Class 801 train entered service in 2017, and they are currently operated by London North Eastern Railway (LNER) on the East Coast Main Line, connecting London with major cities such as Edinburgh, Newcastle, and Leeds.
